Why do you craft?
Thanks to everyone for some really great insight, on both sides, on our post dealing with how consumerism and crafting mix. Keep it going!
Over on Stephanie’s personal blog, she posted a really well-thought-out response to our question. Definitely check it out if you haven’t seen it yet. In her post Steph mentioned that not enough people talk about WHY they craft. And I agree. There are the quick answers- I love meeting new people, I’m into repurposing old goods, extra cash is always great, etc. But think of the bigger picture with this one- what’s the passion behind your making?
I’ll start. I have many reasons, but the biggest it’s keeping my creative force in my busy brain alive.
What about you? Why do you craft?

I believe I make things because of the satisfaction I get in being able to realize a vision of something. While I like to sit there and do the work, what really gets me going is the idea of having something that is 100% in my taste…not some buyer at Target’s. The ‘doing the work’ part is just relaxing. I get into a zone while doing the work and it ends up being very relaxing.

I love it when people say”you are so creative”, knowing full well, that although they don’t suspect it, it’s in them too.
I love it when something turns out slightly cooler than I thought it would. I wish it happened more often, of course, but I guess it’s more awesome that it doesn’t.
I love that when you put in a little extra effort, it seems that it NEVER fails to pay off.
I love it !
