WalMart eliminates stitchery department

I happened to be looking at the DMC web site this evening and saw this news update from the embroidery floss company:

We would like to advise you that Wal-Mart is discontinuing the stitchery department in all their stores. As a result, you will no longer be able to purchase either DMC or other stitchery products at your local Wal-Mart. While this decision by Wal-Mart unfortunately impacts their needlecraft customers, DMC remains committed to providing fine threads and related products to the needlecraft community.

DMC products will remain available at retail outlets nationwide. We encourage you to use our Store Locator, located at the top of this page, to find retail shops that are most convenient for you. We will continue to update our website on a regular basis as new stores are added to our retail network.

As always, we encourage your feedback and suggestions. Please feel free to email us at: dmcusa@dmcus.com

Craft Trends reported this back in July, but it looks like all of the “stitchery” products will be gone by this fall.

Now, I’ve never purchased craft supplies at WalMart, but the decision to remove their stitchery department is very interesting.

Make sure to check out DMC’s web site, linked above, to fill out a survey to help the company gain insight on this.

Hum…I wonder if they will clearance out all of the stock? Might be an opportunity!

Jen- Good question! I haven’t had the chance to check out the WalMart by me in Canton, but if they’re liquidating floss, I’m on it! If you check out a store by you, make sure to let us know so we can post it to the masses!

I am very disappointed that you did that. I was so nice to go to Walmart and pick up what I needed and now no more. Want you to rethink it and get it back in your stores
