Stitch ‘n’ Pitch: “Take me out to the craft game…”

As I was reading my brand-spanking-new issue of Adorn, I saw a wee blurb on Stitch ‘n’ Pitch, maybe the niftiest craft-sport crossover I’ve ever heard of. Or possibly the ONLY craft-sport crossover I’ve ever heard of… Did someone say Cracker Jack?!

The concept is pretty simple: Go to a baseball game and work on a needle-based project, no matter if it’s embroidery, knitting, cross stitch, etc. Photos from previous games look like the crafters were having a lot of fun, so make sure to check out the web site for more details. Dates are already being scheduled for the 2007 season, but as of now the Tigers are without an outfield of crafters. Who knows, maybe we can put out the call to schedule one in the Motor City?

P.S. Speaking of Adorn>, I loved the feature on Shrinky Dink-esque jewelry. Perhaps the editors read Steph’s Council C story on the same topic last year!

I’m so glad you spotted the Stitch ‘n Pitch info — I write that column for Adorn, and was really excited to include the SnP link! I went to the Dodgers game here in LA last year, which was super fun. I heard that they are confirming a few more dates (for a total of around 22) and will be updating the SnP site in February, I hope that Detroit is one of the add-ons.

I adore shrink art jewelry — loved the Adorn feature too. You might like these ideas as well: http://www.flickr.com/photos/susanstars/sets/72057594137702256/

Susan- Your shrinky jewelery is great! I really like the designs you came up with- are those your own?

Lish — thanks! I made the elephant earrings and the hand pendant, and my co-authors Torie, Cathy, and Rachel made the other pieces. Isn’t it so addictive?! I’m going to see my five-year-old nephew this weekend and bringing a bunch of shrink plastic along…
